Mary” Mae” Alice Azevedo (1912-2008) moved to Dixon at the age of six in 1918. Mae brought her pet cat when the family moved to Dixon. Her father began a dairy business. He was from the Azores of Portuguese decent. A family member sponsored him to come to the United States. Mae is a graduate of Dixon High School class which was a class of three individuals in 1931. Mae was the first queen of the Holy Ghost celebration and parade.
Her stories relate to the economic development of agriculture and ranching in early California communities. Her father immigrated from the Azores by working on a steam ship when he was 14 years of age. He bought land in Dixon for grade A dairy farming in 1918 that still belongs to the Azevedo family.
Owners – Joseph Louis Azevedo (1912-1998) married in 1935 to Mary “Mae” Alice Azevedo
Son Joseph “Butch” & Vickie Azevedo inherited and continue to operate the business.

Before the McCune house on First Street was built, in 1910, part of the McCune ranch was sold to the Dixon Alfalfa Company. The entire land mass was nine hundred and sixty acres west of Batavia. The division of the large land holdings in Dixon was divided into small farms, this was done to make what is going to make a town of Dixon and nothing else, so that everyone working in that direction should be welcomed and encouraged as far as possible. We are more than pleased to see the McCune home ranch, which was one of the largest in this section, is rapidly disintegrating and in a far way of becoming the home of many families. It spells prosperity for Northern Solano. According to the author of the Dixon Tribune article dated December 31, 1910. Honorable Henry Evalt McCune 1825-1912

DIXON ROLLER MILLS. Repairs Being Made Which Will Start the Wheels of the Industry. After lying idle for many months the wheels of Dixon Roller Mills will soon be turning again and the hum and stir of an industry that ought to pay in this community will be heard. A.P. and T.G. d'Artenay and Wm. Weyand have undertaken the operation of the neglected industry and are installing a new boiler and repairing the
machinery preparatory to starting up. The plant is to use oil for fuel and will be confined to crushing barley until arrangements can be made to make flour and other mill-stuffs

04/01/1919 LAST OLD SHACK DOWN. The old Munyon shack on the other side of the band hall has finally been torn down by W.J.Weyand and taken to his ranch near Orland. It was the last old relic of stirring times in that part of the town. It was the last of the buildings that stood before the fire. Already the improvement to that part of First Street is noticeable, for the shack was an eyesore.

SHORTAGE OF BAGS A REAL PROBLEM. There will not be enough sacks available to handle the 1942
grain crop in California. There will not be enough steel grain bins available to store all California grain for
which sacks cannot be secured. There is not enough dry lumber available to build bins in which to store
all California grain for which sacks or steel grain bins cannot be secured. There are not enough portable
grain elevators for everyone who wishes to buy one.
